Business and Computer Studies
br>Computer technology plays an increasingly important role in our lives. The Computer Program will provide students with experience that increases their awareness of the functions, capabilities and limitations of computers. Students will evaluate the significance of information processing and related computer applications as they use logic and initiative to solve a wide variety of problems. Students will develop skills to use their computer knowledge as responsible citizens able to cope with the many changes that confront them.
Grade 7 Computer Studies
Students will be taught the life skill of touch-typing in this course. They will also develop problem-solving and file management skills by using some basic Word processing features and Presentations software.
Grade 8 Computer Studies
This course extends the Grade 7 course by reinforcing and mastering touch-typing skills. Students are also introduced to Personal and Business letters as well as bibliographies. Continued emphasis on problem-solving is interwoven throughout the course by introducing intermediate Word processing functions.
BTT1OH Information and Communication Technology in Business
This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software and website design skills. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills, and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.
TIK2O Computer and Information Science
This course introduces students to computer science concepts. Students will learn about the stages of software design; the fundamental programming constructs of sequence, selection and repetition; the functions of internal and external computer components; the relationship among networks, operating systems and application software and their uses; and how programming languages evolve. Students will also develop an awareness of computer-related careers.
ICS3U1 Computer and Information Science (University Preparation)
This course introduces students to computer science. Students will design software independently and as part of a team, using industry-standard programming tools and applying the software development life-cycle model. They will also write and use subprograms within computer programs. Students will develop creative solutions for various types of problems as their understanding of the computing environment grows. They will also explore environmental and ergonomic issues, emerging research in computer science, and global career trends in computer- related fields. MET Prerequisite: None; RMC strongly recommends TIK2O.
