China Exchange
Why would you travel to China?
•To be involved with students in Chinese schools and to have an opportunity to teach English to them
•To connect with Chinese young people and host families
•To understand some of the political and social realities faced by Chinese people
•To appreciate the important work of the China Educational Exchange
•To experience the history, beauty, culture and food of China
•To better understand an eastern culture
•To continue a long tradition of friendship between Rockway and Xindu #1 Middle School
What will you experience?
March 12-14:
Leave Toronto and arrive in Hong Kong for a half-day Island and evening Harbour Tour, Old and New Hong Kong Walk, Temple Street Market, Lantau Island and Discovery Bay.
March 15 -23:
Leave for Chengdu and be taken to our host school in Xindu. Spend 8 days living on campus and involved with students in school. You will experience Tai Chi and various classes; teach English to Elementary students in their classes; learn about the impact of the earthquake in May ‘08; take day trips to Mt. Emei, Lishan Giant Buddha, Mt. Chinchong, Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuary, a Peasant Farm, Temples... and live for 24 hours with a Chinese host family.
March 23:
Take night train to Xian and see the Terra Cotta Soldiers and Central City Market.
March 24-29:
Take night train to Beijing and experience Tian’anmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Great Wall, Beijing’s Old Quarter, City Markets and Olympic Sites. Meet with representatives of the China Educational Exchange.
March 30:
Return home transformed!
What will it cost you?
The actual cost of this trip is approximately $4,900. A school subsidy, and Student Shares (35 shares @ $30.00 each) will reduce your cost to $3,450 (includes airfare, visas, medication, and all meals, accommodation and travel in Hong Kong and China).
