Cyber-bullying
Depression
Problems and misfortunes are a part of life. Everyone experiences unhappiness and many people may become depressed temporarily when things don't go as they would like. Experiences of failure commonly result in temporary feelings of worthlessness and self-blame while personal losses cause feelings of sadness disappointment and emptiness. Such feelings are normal and they usually pass after a short time. This is not the case with depressive illness.
Depression becomes an illness or clinical depression when these feelings are severe last for several weeks and begin to interfere with one's work and social life.
Drugs and Alcohol

Parent Action on Drugs grew out of the concern of a group of parents who were troubled by the growing threat that alcohol and other drugs posed for their school-aged children. Registered as a charity in 1983 today PAD offers a wide range of programs and services aimed at prevention education and support.
- Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
MADD Canada’s aim is to offer support services to victims heighten awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving and to save lives and prevent injuries on our roads. Driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs is a terrible crime that touches all of our lives and it is an irresponsible dangerous and intolerable act.

Eating Disorders
- Eating Disorder Awareness Coalition
The Eating Disorders Awareness Coalition is a charitable organization whose purpose is to promote positive body image and self acceptance through education and awareness of eating disorders wieght preoccuptation and size prejudice. They can be reached at 519.745.4875.
- National Eating Disorders Information Centre
This centre provides information on anorexia bulimia and weight preoccupation.
Learning Disabilities
- The Learning Disabilities Association of Canada
This association provides understanding and support to people with learning disabilities their parents teachers and other professionals.
Other Resources
- Kids Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free 24 hour national bilingual telephone counselling service for children and youth. Kids help phone provides counselling services directly to children and youth between the ages of 4 and 19 years and help adults aged twenty and over find the counselling services they need. They can be reached at 1.800.668.6868
- Self Injury
Young people learn to cope with emotions in different ways. Tears anger depression and withdrawal are some of the ways of responding to – and finding relief from – overwhelming feelings.
Some teens release this bottleneck by cutting or burning or otherwise hurting themselves. Self injury provides immediate relief but this is a short-term solution with serious consequences.
- Separation and Divorce
Although separation and divorce can be the most painful events a family may ever experience the adjustment period after can also be painful. But there are steps to take to help parents and children alike cope with the changes.
