Student Life - Home Stay
We have learned from past experience that International Students adjust to life in Canada much more quickly and that their English improves much more rapidly if they live with a Canadian host family. Thus each International Student at Rockway is placed in a Canadian home with a caring and friendly family who is genuinely interested in welcoming them into their home. Once we assign a host family it is expected that the student will remain there for the time of their stay at Rockway. Only those students living with guardians or adult relatives will be exempt from the expectation of living with a Canadian family. We do not permit International Students to live on their own in apartment settings. Along with arranging the host family, Rockway ensures that each International Student is met at the airport either by their host family or a Rockway representative.
Many of our families have much experience in hosting International Students and they work hard to ensure that their student can find a “home away from home”. Rockway personally interviews each host family inspects each home setting and maintains communication with the host family throughout the year. Rockway also requires that all persons in the host family who are over the age of 18 must obtain a Police Check. This is a reference check done by the local police department to ensure that no one living in the host family residence has a criminal record.
Your accommodation is an important part of your time in Canada and we will do our best to provide you with a supportive home environment where you can feel safe cared for and nurtured while studying at Rockway.
